Our patented technologies are originally licensed from the GSMA, a world-renowned French research lab in spectrometry of atmospheric gases.

AEROVIA has developed instruments based on infrared Quantum Cascade Laser (QCL) combined with different spectrometry solutions:

-  Direct absorption technology for ultimate measurement at ppt level used in the QCLAS,
-  Patented unique and innovative Laser PhotoAcoustic Spectroscopy (LPAS) implemented in QCNOSE and allowing high performance (accuracy at    ppb, selectivity, fast response in flow measurement), multigas versatility and easy-to-use equipment (portability, low maintenance) at best price.


Laser PhotoAcoustic spectroscopy (LPAS)


Laser-based sensing techniques are of great interest in various fields of applications. Among other detection schemes, photoacoustic detection consists to replace the standard optical detector by a microphone. In photoacoustic spectroscopy the light energy absorbed by the sample gas increases the heat energy in the gas molecules and the pressure and temperature of the sample gas also increase. When the infrared radiation is modulated the pressure variation in the photoacoustic sample chamber creates acoustic wave that is then converted into electric signal by the use of a microphone.

 

 

In the LPAS the laser wavelength is selected so that only a single absorption line, characteristic to a target molecule, is used. This allows highly selective measurements. The laser power is very high allowing high sensitivity and short response time. Finally the recorded photoacoustic signal is directly proportional to the specie’s concentration. The performance of a laser-PAS system depends on the cell characteristics, the performance of the microphone and the power of the laser sources. The developed Helmholtz resonant cell has a unique configuration that permits to avoid the external acoustic noises. Finally Aerovia’s sensor based on this technology enables high sensitivity in combination with high power mid-IR quantum cascade lasers.

 


Photocoustic signal

Moreover the signal is generated only from the absorption thus being a so called zero-background technique. Based on Photoacoustic spectroscopy, Aerovia has developed a unique proprietary Helmholtz Resonating Cell combined with new generation of Quantum Cascade Laser offering outstanding features over other laser-based techniques such as:
